Scordisci[]

Scordisci (Greek: Σκορδίσκοι, Latin: Scordisci) are the former inhabitants of Pannonia, believed to be of Gallic origin. They are thought to be descendants of the Celts who invaded Greece, but were defeated, retreated and established themselves in the territory of modern Serbia (around Belgrade). They served the kings of Macedonia. Presumably it was on the example of the Scordisci that the Roman emperors developed the principle of divide and rule. The Romans reported that they had the custom of drinking blood and that they sacrificed prisoners to deities.
