West End Trash is an unfinished Discordian play with music. Written by Alden Loveshade with Captain "Sesame Seed" Rogers, Reverend Loveshade and members of West End Trash Discordians, Illuminated Adepts, Popes Erisian, Reality Simulators (W.E.T.D.I.A.P.E.R.S.), it was seized among other writings in a government raid in early 2002.
Origin
Alden Loveshade conceived the idea for the play while watching a Mt. Santa Juanita College production of West Side Story. The musical has book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, libretto/lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and conception and choreography by Jerome Robbins. The college production of the musical inspired by William Shakespear's Romeo and Juliet featured a large trash bin on stage. Alden decided to write a play or musical that featured a trash bin.
Plot
While the plot is incomplete, it is a tragic-comedy that features characters who live on the street on the west end of a city. A homeless group of four live together, nomially led by Pope Higgins. Their street family is threatened by a fifth person who represents Greyface. The play deals with three primary causes of homelessness: financial, mental, and drug problems.
Seizure
After Reverend Loveshade and his Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild came under U.S. government investigation in late 2001, the play was seized among other writings in early 2002. It wasn't returned by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) until 2005.
Other works
Portions of the play with music appear in the Shamlicht Kids Club Handbook, Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht, and other Discordian works.
